And today, some friendly reminders about pet safety at springtime. Greg, nice of you to think of the pets.
Greg Marcyniuk: Well, that's right, because I know we have a little kitty cat. Well, he's not so little anymore. He's kind of overweight.
He's on a diet, in fact, as I should be too. But, you know, everybody's excited about spring and before you embark on doing your spring chores, we should keep in mind about our pets.
First and foremost, all true lilies can be fatal if ingested by cats, and I don't know if a lot of people realize that. Also, as far as when it comes to spring cleaning, make sure you keep all the cleaners and chemicals out of your pet's way.
And almost all cleaning products, even natural ones, always contain chemicals that can be harmful to your pets. If you're doing home improvements — which again springtime is a good time you want to embark on something — if you're doing any sort of staining, any sort of solvents, again these can be very toxic to pets and can cause irritation and/or chemical burns.
Also, be cautious of physical hazards. You know, nails, staples, insulation blades, and power tools, can be very harmful to pets. Again, your garden — I know a lot of people are excited to get out in the garden right now — so again, be mindful of fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides.
You utilize these. But again, these are all very harmful to pets. So, make sure you're very aware of that. As well, come May, pesky little critters come out, you know, the onslaught of bugs and that. Make sure your pets are treated for year-round heartworm preventative medication as well as flea and tick control programs.
So again, when you're out and about with your dog or cat, make sure, especially with your dogs, that they are on a leash, so they don't run off on you. Those are just some safety tips for your pets.
Rob: Pet safety tips online at nohassleinsurance.ca and also in your new newsletter, which is hot off the presses here.
Greg: Yes, we do. And I just thought I'd give a little pet joke. What's the difference between a guitar and a fish?
Rob: The difference between a guitar and a fish?
Greg: You can't tuna fish.
Rob: Keeping your pet safe and keeping it clean. On the radio, Greg Marcyniuk, Heritage Insurance, downtown Moose Jaw, on CHAB's Ask The Expert.
