Here's a transcript of this episode:
Rob Carnie: With Greg Marcyniuk from Heritage Insurance in downtown Moose Jaw and today, Greg, we're talking about an event that you are hosting, a mature driver's refresher course. What a great idea.
Greg Marcyniuk: Yeah, as we tend to get a little older, sometimes we just get a little bit lazier and kinda just guess our way through when we're driving and...
Rob: Yes we do. Yes, sir.
Greg: So this is brought forward by the Saskatchewan Safety Council, and it's a course that is totally free. It's a six hour mature driver refresher course. All the information is offered in a real positive, open class environment. Again, participant driver's licenses are not affected and there is no required examination, Rob. The thing that they look at is your normal driving situations, such as intersections, following distance, and maintaining an open gate around your vehicle, as well as hazardous driving environments, such as skids, head-on collisions, hydroplaning, and how to protect yourself while you're driving in those conditions, and driver guidance, such as sign recognition and pavement markings, review safety devices, such as seat belts and airbags and medication awareness, vision and effective use of your eyes. As we tend to get older, our eyes tend to kind of get a little bit worse. Where we're having it is at the Moose Jaw Shrine Club, and it's going to be October 3, 2016. It will be from 9 AM to noon and then 1 PM to 3 PM. And again, this is totally free. However, you do have to register here at Heritage Insurance. So if you just give us a call at (306) 693-7640, let them know that, yes, you're going to be coming up, because again, it's free and there are gonna be some door prizes there as well.
Rob: Awesome. Now I know some people will get registered and say, "This is a great idea. You're never too old to learn." I'm thinking there might be some people who might have to swallow their pride to go to a refresher course like this. But if there are people out there with moms or dads, or grandmas or grandpas and you're worried about them out on the road, this is a great thing to talk them into attending, eh?
Greg: Oh, for sure. And it, you know, it doesn't have to Mom or Dad, even like I myself personally plan on sitting in on the class because, you know, it doesn't hurt to sit in and you may learn something new and who knows, it could save your life.
Rob: Any age restrictions? Do you have to be a certain age?
Greg: No age restrictions. If you wanna come in 55+, whatever, it doesn't matter. I don't think it would hurt anybody to go and listen to what they have to say. From what I understand, it's an excellent course, well put together, and people come out of there knowing a lot more than what they did prior to.
Rob: Again, it's the mature driver refresher course that's being offered free of charge, October 3rd at the Moose Jaw Shrine Club and again, you gotta register.
Greg: That's correct. (306) 693-7640 at Heritage Insurance, or come on down and see us and just sign up here.
