Greg outlines the benefits of getting an Auto Pak in advance of summer travel in this episode of Ask The Expert. 800 CHAB radio presents Ask the Expert with Greg Marcyniuk of Heritage Insurance located in Moose Jaw.
Here's a full transcript of the episode:
Rob Carnie: Ask the Expert with Greg Marcyniuk from Heritage Insurance in Moose Jaw. Today, Greg, summer holiday season is here. Lots of people packing up the RV or the van or the station wagon or the sports car and heading out on the road. And there are some things people might consider before they head out on the road, and that comes to your insurance. And perhaps, thinking about an Auto Pak because, man, they can come in handy in case you need them.
Greg Marcyniuk: That's right, Rob, and it's not just when you're traveling. Like, the biggest thing you have to be concerned about on a package policy when you're traveling outside of the province is your plate only provides $200,000 of liability coverage. With an Auto Pak Policy, you can purchase up to $5 million. So that, say for example, you get in an accident down there. If they don't have any insurance, then you're on the hook. As well, if you hit somebody that's worth a lot of money, making a lot of money — especially down in the States — you're going to be sued and you want to be covered. So that's something, just in itself, very inexpensive just to get the liability insurance, and you can come in and see us.
The other thing is with a package policy, is if you get the Auto Pak, it actually will provide injury and loss up to $2 million. And that option is there whether the other driver is under-insured or if the other driver is uninsured, i.e. if they're over 0.08, something like that. Is an injury on death benefit provided under basic plate coverage? SGI does have some coverage. But again, with the Pak policy, it provides extra coverages.
Now, if you own a new vehicle — which a lot of people don't realize — when you purchase a new vehicle, you can get replacement cost on that vehicle that would provide coverage for three years. Because as soon as you drive that new vehicle off the lot, you typically will lose 20%. As well, they will use new parts. They won't use used parts, or salvage parts, on a policy that you purchase, you know, just as far as with your basic plate coverage.
The other big thing, are you prepared to pay a $700 deductible if you get in an accident? Whereas with an Auto Pak, you can get various deductibles of either $100, $200, $350, or $500. So that, you know, it's a lot more affordable. And a lot of these policies, are only $200, so you get in one accident.
Or the other thing, if you get a stone chip, that's additional coverage. You can get a $50, $100 deductible on there, and stone chips are free, so again, you've got that in place as well. There's lots and lots of wildlife — not only wildlife, a lot of people don't realize, if there's fire, lightning, or if your vehicle's stolen — it's a $0 deductible. So there's a lot of advantages right there. If you’ve got your vehicle sitting outside a lot of the time, whether it be fire, lightning, or hail — again, there is extra coverage there.
So, these are just some of the things that are available for you. Package policy, just makes total sense to have it, and there's additional coverage that is there. Like, for example, if you borrow a friend's car, your Auto Packet extends there. Even if you're hit by a motor vehicle, a lot of people don't realize that the Pak covers that there as well for them, so there would be money under the Family Security Program. So there are additional coverages. Really encourage you to come down, talk to any of our brokers here at the corner of 1st and Fairford West.
Rob: A lot of advantages to having the Auto Pak, for sure. And again, they come in various price ranges and various coverage. So for details, drop in and see the folks at Heritage Insurance in downtown Moose Jaw, or we can go online.
